If you are looking for something to do in the Kansas City area, check out Fahrmeier Farms U Pick in Lexington, MO. We recently visited to pick some strawberries. It was just a short 45-minute drive from Lee’s Summit. It is a great social distancing summer activity for kids and families.
To plan your visit, check out their Facebook page to make a reservation. This helps control the number of pickers in the fields. Once you get there, check in, wash your hands, then you are assigned a row to pick. We found plenty of berries and were able to keep a good social distance from other pickers. When we filled our cardboard bins to our pleasure, we walked back to the cashier to exit. Overall, it was a great family experience. Small enough operation, but plenty of berries to go around.
Now that we have a big bin of fresh berries, we needed to figure out what to do with them. Now, fresh fruit is great. We always have fruit to grab for snacks and smoothies. But we decided to try a new recipe. Pinterest is filled with recipes for strawberries. We choose Strawberry Sorbet.
Strawberry Sorbet
2 c frozen strawberries
¼ c Plain Greek Yogurt
1.5 tbsp natural honey
1 tbsp lemon juice
*Mix all ingredients in blender or food processor until creamy.
The recipe said it can be stored up to 30 days in the freezer. But I found it became a solid brick in the freezer. So, you need to defrost the leftovers before using. However, the recipe was delicious. Healthy, easy, tasty recipes are my style. This one marked all the boxes. We are set on strawberries for a while. But we will be back. I saw blackberries growing; they should be ready in July.
Happy Summer Fun!
