Lee’s Summit is full of great parks and Fall adventures.  Here are some Fall Fitness Tips to make the Fall of 2022 memorable

Fall is a change of seasons or change of routines, but don’t let it slow you down.  Use Fall as a time to get our and explore.  When was the last time you tried something new?  When did you last walk through falling leaves?  When did you last take a minute to enjoy nature?  This can be done in your own yard or travel a few hours for a daytrip.

There are many great opportunities in our city and state.  Take it on your own level and check some out!

Try something new

If you like to get outside and explore, take your explorations to somewhere new!  If you are not in the Lee’s Summit or Kansas City area, check out local parks, trails, or adventures close to your home.

Missouri State Parks Take a daytrip to a Missouri State Park.  There are many great adventures in our state, check one out!

Stay hydrated

This time of year does not have scorching Missouri summer heat, but it is important to stay hydrated in cooler temps.  Staying hydrated keeps your body at a normal temperature. Keep water with you during the day. Have a water bottle or cup of water with you at work, in the car, or while at home.  Having it close by will encourage drinking more.

You should consume 50-75% of your body weight in ounces per day.

Example: A 150lbs. person should consume 75-112 oz of water per day. 75oz during sedentary times, 112oz during active times). This would be about ½-3/4 of a gallon of water.

Pick up some new gear

Change in outdoor temperatures is a great time to pick up new gear.  It could be workout clothes, outdoor gear, hiking gear, new daypack or hydration pack or just a fresh pair of walking shoes.  Keeping your body comfortable keeps you happier while exercising or exploring.  Below are a few links to help:

Get fit for shoes  When was the last time you picked up a new pair of shoes?  Check your shoe tread, is it overrun? New shoes can reduce impact on your feet and joints.

A good pair of shoes can make a big difference in how you feel.  If you are walking (indoor or outdoors) or running, pick the right shoe for you.

Big Muddy Gear Exchange  Consign and purchase gear and repair gear.  Great store in the West Bottoms area.

REI Great resource for outdoor gear.  They also host educational events at the local store or virtual events.

These are just a few links.  Check out local sporting goods stores, running stores, or even FB Marketplace for gently used gear.

Stay accountable

Do you want to try something new, but just do not get to it?  Then you need a little accountability.

Tips for accountability

Schedule it on your calendar- Look at your week or weekend and schedule something new.  Putting in down on paper or your phone calendar will save a time spot to make it happen.

Find a buddy- Invite a friend, neighbor, or family member to join you on something new.  A little accountability partner will help you get it done.

Sign up for something new– Use one of the links above to sign up for a new event.

It works well to have a support system in place.  Do you have a friend, family member, or significant other to support you in your wellness vision?  Share your vision with them and lean on them as needed.  Call, message, or share thoughts with them.  Reach out to your support system as needed.

Sometimes a new sight or experience will brighten your day.  If you are not able to get out and about, find a new experience in your own home.  A new puzzle, ask a family member to share photos of a recent trip, plan a home coffee meetup, or ask a family member to take you on a drive to see a new sight.  These are just a few ideas.  Find something that fits your comfort level or ability.
